The green wind of watches

A total of 38 brands took part in Watches & Wonders Geneva 2021 online watch fair. The latest trend in watches was introduced: everything is green.

In recent years, green watches have been the talk of the town, from bronze watches with green faces to dials made of special stones. How to bring green into the design of one’s own watch is a learning curve, and we’ll be looking at the brands’ unique interpretations.

The event is a great example of green with these stunning designs by Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and others

Blue dials have always been popular, and it’s easy to see why. However, the increased number of green dials on display at the show makes one wonder whether this underrated colour should be given a chance. Thanks to Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Piaget, as well as other brands, there were plenty to choose from – emerald, olive or forest…
Cartier has launched a number of trendy and up-to-date Tank collections, including the Tank Must photoelectric watch, which is infused with the concept of sustainability. The most eye-catching aspect of the collection is the use of colour, particularly in the blue, red and green colours commonly used in Cartier’s historical creations, replica watches in the Tank Must, which is a single release!

Jaeger-LeCoultre is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the launch of its most popular collection with a pine green Reverso. The sun-brushed lacquered dial features applied hour-markers and Dauphine hands, while the case is secured to the wrist with a matching leather strap. Like the other Reversos, the solid metal back of this reversible case is perfect for personalisation with a pattern or engraving. The wearer can choose to conceal this personalisation as a pleasing decoration known only to them, or flip the case over and display it as the front of the watch’s design.

The faceted shape of the hour-markers is offset by the dauphine hands, which visually add depth and dimension to the lacquered dial. The small seconds display on the lower half of the dial features a circular track ring that contrasts with the linear geometry of the dial and case. When the case is turned over, the bezel is engraved with a sunburst motif that echoes the sunburst-embellished dial.
1858 Montblanc split-seconds chronograph limited edition

The 1858 Montblanc collection, which was launched in 2019, makes extensive use of green to echo the mountain spirit of the Minerva watch. The case is made of specially developed “Lime Gold” and features a gold dial, green hour-markers and a green brushed calfskin strap, giving it a vintage look.

Piaget continues to push the limits of human watchmaking with the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, an ultra-thin watch just two millimetres thick! Since the launch of the prototype in 2018, it has won the GPHG Gold Indicator Award in 2020.

And in 2021, Piaget is taking it a step further by presenting a special edition of the Altiplano UltimateConcept with bridges, screws, indices, dial and strap in dark green, in tribute to the brand’s eponymous watchmaking workshop founded in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées in the Swiss Jura.

This year, Tudor is offering the Black Bay Fifty-Eight in an 18ct yellow gold case with a gold-green dial, with a transparent caseback that allows the movement to be seen.
